      Mr. Chester Y. N. Cheung

Chester is a PhD student in the Human Communication, Development and Information Sciences Unit at The University of Hong Kong Faculty of Education. He is also a registered speech therapist in Hong Kong who possesses a Master degree in speech language pathology and a Bachelor degree in psychology. As a speech therapist, Chester worked in local NGO, hospital, and elderly homes while he focused his clinical expertise in adult’s communication and swallowing disorders. As a researcher, Chester endeavours in the fields of aphasiology and neurotherapeutics. Currently, he is pioneering in the development of EEG-guided individualized Transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation (tACS) therapy for patients with aphasia.

Research Expertise and Interests:

  • Aphasia and PPA

  • Neuroimaging (EEG) and Neuromodulation (tACS, tDCS, TMS)

  • Discourse analysis

      Mr. Saeed Saeedi

Saeed is a full-time PhD student in the Human Communication, Learning, and Development Unit within the Faculty of Education at The University of Hong Kong. He holds both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Hamedan University of Medical Sciences and Tehran University of Medical Sciences, respectively. Prior to his doctoral studies, he practiced as a licensed speech-language pathologist in Iran. During his Master's program, his research focused on voice disorders. His current work investigates laryngeal neurophysiology and the development of neuromodulation-based interventions for patients with voice disorders.

Research Expertise and Interests:

  • Voice disorders

  • Non-invasive brain stimulation (TMS, tDCS, tACS, and tRNS) and neuroimaging (fNIRS and EEG) techniques

  • Laryngeal electromyography (EMG)

  • Laryngeal ultrasonography

      Mr. M Asif Basha C

Asif is a PhD student in the Human Communication, Development and Information Sciences Unit in the Faculty of Education at The University of Hong Kong. Asif holds a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology from Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University Ballari in India. Asif was a Felix Scholar during the year 2021-22 studying Master of Science in Language Sciences at The University of Reading, United Kingdom. During his Master’s degree, Asif worked on investigating the structural brain differences for speech deficits in Parkinson’s disease using diffusion neuroimaging data. Asif’s doctoral research focuses on investigating the neural basis of sensorimotor control during speech production in stuttering using non-invasive neuromodulation methods (NIBS) such as Transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation (tACS) and electrophysiological methods such as M/EEG. This research work aims to enhancing the understanding of the neural basis for speech production and therapeutic interventions using NIBS in stuttering.

Research Expertise and Interests:

  • Stuttering and Neurogenic Communication Disorders (Parkinson’s Disease, Aphasia, PPA)

  • Neuromodulation (tACS, tDCS, TMS) and Neuroimaging (EEG, fMRI, Diffusion MRI)

  • Speech Sensorimotor control and learning

  • Functional and Structural Connectivity

  • Meta-Analysis and neuroimaging data analysis
