The effects of brain stimulation on enhancement of speech fluency in adults who stutter

Speech and Neuromodulation Lab is inviting you to participate in our study on improving speech fluency in adults who stutter using behavioral and neuroscientific methods. 

 

Eligibility

• A person who stutter with age range of 18 - 60 

• Native Cantonese speaker

• No history of brain damage 

 

Venue:

RM 714, 7/F, Meng Wah Complex Building, The University of Hong Kong

 

Remuneration:

You will be remunerated with HKD500 cash upon completion of all sessions.

 

Duration

The whole experiment has 2 phases and will be conducted over 5 to 6 weeks approximately. There will be a two-week break between Phase 1 and Phase 2. Each phase includes 5 consecutive sessions (~60 min) of rTMS treatment combined with behavioral speech therapy within one week. Three additional follow-up evaluations will also be administered (before Phase 1, one week after Phase 1, and one week after Phase 2).

香港大學言語和腦神經調節實驗室誠邀口吃患者參與關於言語治療及 rTMS神經科學療法對改善言語流暢度的研究。

參加者要求:​

• 18 - 60歲的口吃患者

• 廣東話母語使用者

• 無腦部損傷

 

地點:

香港大學明華綜合大樓7樓714室

實驗報酬:

完成所有課程後,您將獲得港幣500元現金報酬。

 

時間:

整個實驗分為兩個階段,將劃分大約 5 - 6 週進行。 第一和二階段之間將有兩週的休息時間。每個階段將包括連續 5 節的言語及 rTMS治療(每節約 60 分鐘; 必須在一週內完成)。在第一階段之前、第一階段後一週和第二階段後一週,參加者亦須參與額外的言語流暢度評估以作治療成效分析。

The neurocognition of typical and atypical language development: Towards developing early biomarkers (Collaboration with PolyU)

You are cordially invited to participate in the project conducted by Dr. Zhang Caicai, who is Assistant Professor at the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Suitable children will be invited to participate in (1) a comprehensive behavioral battery of language, memory, and other cognitive tasks to examine the contribution of procedural and declarative learning and memory retention to various components of speech, language, and reading, and (2) structural MRI and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) studies to examine the neuroanatomical markers of typical and atypical language development. The behavioral battery of tasks will take approximately 3-4 days, and the structural MRI and DTI studies will take approximately 0.5 hour.

We are looking for 6-12-year-old native Cantonese children who are:
1.    Typically developed
2.     Suspected or diagnosed with one of the following language disorders:
        a.    Developmental stuttering
        b.    Developmental language disorder
        c.    Dyslexia

我們誠摯邀請您參加一項由香港理工大學(理大)中文及雙語學系助理教授張偲偲博士主持的合作研究。合資格兒童將獲邀參與(1)語言、記憶及認知能力的整套行為測試,以研究程序及 陳述記憶和記憶留存對言語、語言和閱讀能力的影響;(2)結構性磁共振成像和擴散張量成像,以研究典型和非典型語言發展的神經結構基礎。整套行為測試可能需時 3﹣4 日,結構性磁共振成像(MRI)和擴散張量成像需時半小時。

 

參與者要求:

6-12嵗廣東話為母語的兒童

  1. 正常發展或

  2. 被診斷或懷疑有其中一項:

      a. 口吃

      b. 發展性語言障礙

      c. 讀寫障礙
